Compost Facility
The Muscatine Compost Facility is located at the Muscatine Transfer Station, 1000 South Houser Street, and is open late March to mid December, based upon the weather.
Sunday through Friday 12 - 6 PM (CST)
Saturday 9 AM - 6 PM (CST)
The Compost Site will open on Sunday, March 19th, 2023.

The Muscatine Compost Facility is open to the general public during the hours listed above. Muscatine and Fruitland residents can deposit yard waste free of charge. Beginning November 4, 2019, non-residents and commercial tree and yard waste management services will be charged a fee upon entering the facility (see below).
RULES:
All Loads Must Be Secured.
Yard Waste (Grass Clippings, Leaves, Plants Grown in Residential Yards Only
Brush and Branches (10 feet x 10 feet)
Larger Trees and Logs ( No Tree Stumps or Roots)
Compost and Wood Mulch:
Wood mulch is available to residents. Loading of mulch will be offered on weekdays from 12-3:00 p.m. but limited to the availability of staff. Loading of mulch on Saturday and Sunday will be dependent on the individual wanting the compost as staff will not be available to help.
Delivery Available:
Delivery of wood mulch will be available while the Compost Site is open for the season. Deliveries of shredded mulch, wood chips, and compost would need to be prescheduled by calling the Transfer Station. Deliveries would be limited to Muscatine and Fruitland residents on their trash collection day and limited to time available. A full one ton truck load would cost $25.
Firewood:
Get ready for winter firewood season by coming to the Compost Site and get your firewood. All residents must sign a waiver available from the attendant at the Compost Site before cutting or taking wood.
Fees:
Residents of Muscatine and Fruitland can visit the Muscatine Transfer Station, Muscatine City Hall, or the Muscatine Public Works Department to receive a window sticker to verify that they are a resident and will not be charged a fee at the Compost Site by the attendant. A driver’s license with current address will be needed to verify residency. Each resident will receive a sticker for up to two vehicles which should be placed in the lower right hand corner of the windshield.
Please note: The Compost Site does not accept debit/credit cards at this time. Cash or check are the only accepted payment methods.
