Roadway Maintenance

Functions

The Roadway Maintenance Division works to provide a safe and well-maintained transportation system throughout the City of Muscatine’s infrastructure of streets. Maintenance of streets in Muscatine is performed on all roads within the city limits except the U.S. 61 Bypass and a small portion of Business Route U.S. 61, which are maintained by the State of Iowa.

Projects

There are over 140 miles of streets within the city limits. In addition to streets, the Roadway Maintenance Division maintains alleys and parking lots. The division is also involved in numerous other projects including:

  • Pavement Management
  • Assisting the Refuse Collection Division during cleanup week
  • Cleaning and replacing culverts
  • Making concrete repairs
  • Patching potholes and plumber ditches
  • Repairing city sidewalks (including Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) panels
  • Replacing curbs and gutters
