MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine City Council will conduct a public hearing Thursday on the Urban Renewal Plan Amendment that includes tax increment financing for four future projects in Muscatine. A resolution approving the October 2024 Amendment will be discussed and voted on later in the meeting.
The public is welcomed, and encouraged, to attend when the Council meets at 6 p.m. Thursday in the City Council Chambers on the second flood of Muscatine City Hall. The meetings are open to all individuals regardless of language spoken or disability. Any person requiring a reasonable accommodation to participate should contact the City Clerk’s office at 563-264-1500.
Mayor Brad Bark will open the meeting by signing three proclamations including setting October 14 as Indigenous Peoples Day in Muscatine, setting October 6-12 as Fire Prevention Week in Muscatine with a focus on smoke detectors, and October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month in Muscatine.
The Mayor will also announce the hours on October 31 for Trick or Treating in Muscatine.
The Urban Renewal Plan Amendment, if approved, will include tax increment financing to pay the costs of relocating the dredge spoils site, support to BTS Development, LLC, in connection with the construction of a mixed-use building, support to Muscatine Downtown Investors, LLC, in connection with the demolition of an existing building and construction of a residential condominium, and to pay the costs of a Blight Alleviation and Demolition program.
In other items the Council will consider and vote on:
- Set a public hearing on October 17 to discuss the impacts of replacing the Park Avenue West bridge;
- Set a public hearing on October 17 to review the plans and specifications for the Lake Park Boulevard Bridge Deck Overlay Project;
- Approve a grant from the Iowa DNR for a Litter Collection Event Trailer and contents; and,
- Receive an update on the Muscatine Indoor Sports Complex Project.
