MUSCATINE, Iowa – Leaf collection efforts by Department of Public Works (DPW) crews has been completed with the final pickups in Zone 7 along with a few random piles Wednesday (Dec. 18) morning.

Four crews have been working the past few weeks to complete the leaf collection effort before winter arrives. The trucks will now be cleaned up, returned to normal DPW operations, and prepared for the winter season.

The next collection will be the “Call-In” collection in April. Residents are reminded to put a note on their calendar for the first week of March to call Public Works and schedule a pick up date in April. DPW crews will not canvas the eight zones during the spring leaf collection program.

The Compost Facility at the Muscatine Transfer Station will remain open under their current schedule for as long as weather permits according to Solid Waste Collections and Drainage Manager David Popp. An announcement will be made should the facility close for the winter.

The Compost Facility will continue with its current schedule that has the facility closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but open the rest of the week. Compost Facility hours of operation are 12-6 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. Additional closures may occur due to the weather.

An attendant will be on site to verify residency and secure payment from non-residents and commercial users (cash or check only with no bills larger than $20.00) during Compost Site operating hours.

The facility accepts yard waste, brush, and logs from Muscatine and Fruitland residents as part of their monthly solid waste collection fees. The fee schedule for non-resident and for commercial users is available on the Compost Site page on the City of Muscatine web site.
