[ARCHIVED] ZBA, Airport Advisory boards in search of new members

MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Airport Advisory Committee are each looking for a member from the Muscatine community to fulfill unexpired terms on their respective panels. Interested community members are asked to visit the Boards & Commissions page on the City of Muscatine web site, download the application, and submit the document to the Administrative Secretary at Muscatine City Hall no later than December 27, 2019.


The Zoning Board of Adjustment conducts hearings and issues decisions on appeals involving an alleged erroring any requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement and interpretation of the zoning ordinance.  The board also conducts hearings and issues decisions on special exceptions to zoning ordinances.


Members are appointed to serve a five-year term and are eligible to serve a maximum of two consecutive terms. The Board meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the City Council Chambers at Muscatine City Hall.

The Airport Advisory Commission assists in the preparation of the airport budget, recommends procedures and policies in connection with the administration of the airport, investigates means by which the airport can be improved, and makes recommendations for the long-range needs of the airport.


Members are appointed to serve a five-year term and are eligible to serve a maximum of two consecutive terms. The Commission meets at 5 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at the Airport Terminal Building.

Applications from qualified and interested Muscatine residents are reviewed by the Nominating Committee who submits their recommendations to the full City Council for approval.


The City receives applications from Muscatine residents for the various boards and commissions throughout the year with applications reviewed and recommendations made by the Nominating Committee as needed throughout the year.


Muscatine is a great place to live and nothing demonstrates that more than how residents come together to serve. Whether that service comes on a committee, project, or organizational level, or in just helping out a neighbor, Muscatine residents are working together to make a great community even better.


The City of Muscatine is thankful and grateful for the many residents who have volunteered their time and service to be a member on one of the many boards and commissions that assist in developing and monitoring City programs, policies and services.


The City of Muscatine is currently taking applications for the Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Airport Advisory Commission. Completed applications can be emailed to the administrative secretary or mailed to Boards & Commissions, c/o Administrative Secretary, Muscatine City Hall, 215 Sycamore, Muscatine, IA 52761.


All applications are reviewed by the Nominating Committee to ensure applicants meet the qualifications to serve on a specific board or commission, to ensure there is no potential conflicts of interests, and to ensure that each board or commission has a gender balance as prescribed by Iowa Code. Those that meet the requirements are submitted to the full Council for approval. The nominating committee includes the Mayor, two Council representatives, and the City Administrator or a representative from city staff.
