MUSCATINE, Iowa – The City of Muscatine is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the Historic Preservation Commission and the Muscatine Art Center Board of Directors (Board of Trustees). Community members interested in preserving Muscatine’s heritage or supporting its cultural and artistic life are encouraged to apply.
The Historic Preservation Commission works to safeguard Muscatine’s historic, aesthetic, and cultural heritage. Members assist in preserving sites and districts of historical significance and ensuring the city’s architectural legacy is maintained for future generations. The Commission meets at 5:15 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at Muscatine City Hall. Terms are five years, with a maximum of two full terms.
The Art Center Board of Trustees governs the Muscatine Art Center, overseeing its exhibitions, programs, and operations. Trustees play a key role in guiding the Art Center’s mission of enriching the community through the arts. The Board meets at 5:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Musser McColm Mansion. Terms are three years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms.
Applications for both boards must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2025.

The City’s Nominating Committee will review all applications, evaluating qualifications, potential conflicts of interest, and compliance with gender balance requirements under Iowa Code. Final appointments will be made by the Muscatine City Council.
