MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine City Council will hold its final Thursday meeting this week before moving to a new Tuesday schedule beginning in October. Under recently approved Rules of Council, regular meetings will now take place at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. If needed, an in-depth session may be scheduled for the second Tuesday, also at 5:30 p.m.
This week’s meeting will be held Thursday, September 18, at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. The agenda is light, with the main item being the setting of a public hearing for October 7 regarding the Dredge Spoil Relocation Project. The project proposes moving dredge spoils from the former Hawkeye Lumber property, now privately owned, to a site on Cypress Street between East 2nd Street and Mad Creek.
Additional items on Thursday’s agenda include:
- Proclamation recognizing Orange Shirt Day / National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.
- Proclamation declaring Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday, October 13.
- Approval of an extension of an industrial contract with Kraft Heinz Foods Company.
- Acceptance of completed work on the Clark House elevators.
- Consideration of a request to install a semi-permanent stop sign and traffic island at Mulberry Avenue and Tipton Road.
