[ARCHIVED] Big weekend of fun-filled activity along the Muscatine riverfront

MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine riverfront will be buzzing with excitement this Saturday as two major events bring outdoor fun, competition, and community celebration to Riverside Park.

Early Action: Twisted Cat “Jack and Jill” Catfish Tournament

The Twisted Cat Outdoors Fishing Series returns to Muscatine for the third straight year, casting off Saturday morning from the upriver boat launch at Riverside Park. Anglers will hit the Mississippi River starting at 6 a.m., with lines out from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weigh-ins to follow in the upriver parking lot.

While the upriver section of the park will remain open to the public, visitors should be aware that the upriver parking lot will be filled with competitor vehicles and trailers with limited access and parking from the Cedar Street entrance upriver to the parking area due to tournament activity.

Splash, Ride, Run – Muscatine Triathlon 2025

Great weather is anticipated for the first annual Muscatine Triathlon Saturday at Deep Lakes Park. Competition begins at 8 a.m. with a 750-meter swim followed by a 12.4-mile bike ride, and completed with a 5K run. Family Fun events will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. including a Muscatine Market with food and other vendors, a Musco Screen to observe the race and receive live results, and a Kid’s Zone that is free and open to the public.

General parking will be in the grass lot at the corner of 57th and Pettibone with shuttle service to the park. Spectator’s and volunteers are asked to take Highway 61 to 57th Street, and take 57th through Fruitland to the parking area.

Please be aware that roads around Deep Lakes Park will be closed during the Muscatine Triathlon. Watch for detour signs and obey all traffic control devices for the safety of competitors, volunteers, and spectators.

Evening Vibes: Muscatine Triathlon After Party

Saturday’s energy doesn’t stop at the river’s edge. Following the 2025 Muscatine Triathlon at Deep Lakes Park (starting at 8 a.m.), racers, families, and fans are invited to celebrate a successful day at the Triathlon After Party.

Hosted by the Chamber Ambassador Network of Muscatine, the party runs from 4 to 10 p.m. in the downriver section of Riverside Park, and will feature:

  • Live music
  • Great food & drinks
  • Family-friendly fun
  • Scenic riverfront views

To accommodate the event, the small parking lot between the playground and basketball courts will be closed starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, reopening Sunday morning.

With fishing, racing, food, and festivities on the schedule, it's shaping up to be a memorable weekend along the Mississippi in Muscatine.
