The Muscatine Fire Department provides water and ice rescue to the citizens and visitors of the City of Muscatine. They work with Muscatine Sheriff's Department, and it is our goal to provide a swift timely response with well trained personnel in the event they are needed for one of these rescues. This team is separate from Muscatine County Search and Rescue. Muscatine County Search and Rescue, Muscatine County Sheriff's Office, and Muscatine Fire are all typically dispatched for an emergency on the Mississippi River, near the Muscatine River Front. The water rescue team is called out to provide immediate advanced life support options in an emergency. Paramedics are typically not dispatched to stranded boaters.
Ice rescue services are also provided in the event that a person falls through the ice or becomes trapped in cold water. Muscatine Fire Department is equipped with specialized suits and rope rescue equipment for this type of condition. MFD works with both MSAR and MCSO while conducting these types of operations. Engine 311 and Station 1 are responsible for these services.
