MUSCATINE, Iowa – One of the Riverfront Trail crossings of the Canadian Pacific-Kansas City (CPKC) Railroad in Riverside Park has reopened for public use while another has been closed to remove and replace the Quiet Zone chicanes. The work is being conducted by Department of Public Works (DPW) staff.

Work to remove and replace the chicanes at the Riverfront Trail crossing near Mad Creek (upriver end of Riverside Park) were completed Wednesday (Sept. 13) with the trail now open for public use. Public Works staff have moved down to the trail crossing at the Hershey Lift Station (downriver end of Riverside Park) and have started the process of removing and replacing the chicanes. That work is tentatively scheduled to be completed by September 25, weather permitting.

These chicanes are required to maintain the quiet zone downtown and are being replaced due to frequent vandalism and breakage by the public.

We apologize for the inconvenience but the chicanes are necessary for the safety of the public while using Muscatine’s recreational trail system and crossing the railroad tracks.
