MUSCATINE, Iowa – Playgrounds and sport courts throughout the City of Muscatine parks system have been and will remain open in accordance with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds’ proclamations.

The Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department encourages the use of open spaces and outdoor recreation areas while practicing social distancing, limiting non-essential interpersonal contact, and the wearing of face coverings when social distancing cannot be maintained.

Muscatine is home to over 45,000 square feet of colorful, modular, state of the art playgrounds with 12 play areas available for use in 11 of Muscatine’s parks. Poured-in-place rubberized safety surfacing, which is one of the industry’s safest known play surfaces, can be found under each playground and allows for expanded seasonal usage.

Citizens can find the playground nearest their neighborhood by viewing the City of Muscatine Parks Map in the 2020 Summer Brochure.

Patrons are advised to wash or sanitize their hands frequently as the play equipment is not sanitized.

The Parks and Recreation Department also operates a variety of sport courts allowing for a variety of leisure opportunities across town. Tennis courts at Weed Park allow for individual practice on the training wall, singles or doubles play, as well as Pickleball. Sand Volleyball courts are also located in Weed Park and can be found off the Colorado Street entrance.

Along with baseball and softball diamonds, Kent Stein Park also offers horseshoe courts. Basketball players can shoot hoops at five different locations throughout Muscatine, from Musser Park to Longview Park.
