Citizen’s Public Safety Academy
The Muscatine Fire Department and the Muscatine Police Department are pleased to announce the joint creation of the Citizen's Public Safety Academy. Community members interested in learning what the Muscatine Firefighters and Muscatine Police Officers do every day are encouraged to join them for a nine week academy. Participants in the program will gain firsthand knowledge and experience relating to the various services that these two departments provide.
Those interested in joining the Citizen's Public Safety Academy may obtain an application online or from the Public Safety Building at 312 E. Fifth Street. Applications are due by August 14, and selection into the academy will be determined by August 21. The academy will be limited to 12 people, so please apply as soon as possible.
Once selected for the academy, participants will gain hands-on experience with tasks that the Firefighters and Police Officers perform every day. Firefighting, evidence collection, auto extrication and SWAT are just a few of the topics that academy personnel will learn. The academy will take place every Tuesday from 6 to 10 p.m., beginning Sept. 1. Graduation will take place on October 27 at the City of Muscatine City Council chambers where participants will receive a certificate signifying completion of the academy. During the academy, participants will wear the same personal protective gear that the firefighters do and will receive a Public Safety Academy t-shirt that can be worn during class.
The Muscatine Fire Department and the Muscatine Police Department hope you join them for this exciting opportunity.
